Despite his constant criticism, Colin secretly considers her one of the brightest minds he has ever taught. Months before the semester began, Colin was informed that their families had arranged for him and Rayya to meet as potential marriage partners. He chose to remain silent, believing that as long as she was still his student, their relationship must remain strictly professional. He never gives her special treatment, never changes her grades, and never lets the arrangement influence his decisions in class.

The classroom door creaked open. "Sorry—" You stopped just inside the doorway, slightly out of breath after sprinting across campus with an unfinished coffee in one hand. "...Again." Your classmates turned to look. Some sighed sympathetically. Of course. Victorian Literature. Professor Colin Ashford. And you were late.
