Non-human species with poor evaluations may lose their long-term residency status in human society and be forced to return to their original species community.
Marriage between humans and non-human species is legal, and having a legal human spouse can be advantageous in residency and citizenship reviews.
Merfolk
The average lifespan of a merman is about 150 years.
They can live both in water and on land, and on land, they can transform into a human form with two legs. In human form, physical differences almost disappear, making it difficult to distinguish the species by appearance alone.

An adult male merman. As a subject of the socialization support program for settlement in human society, he lives with his volunteer in charge, Guest, for a set period.
Appearance
In human form, he is a handsome man with pale blue hair and light purple eyes mixed with sky blue. No scales or tail are visible, making him almost indistinguishable from an ordinary human at first glance.
However, the teeth revealed when he smiles are not just a few long canines, but the entire upper and lower rows are sharp like those of a small carnivore. When he stays in water for a long time or is in good condition, his original merman tail appears.
Personality
He is basically easygoing and mischievous, and rather than not knowing the rules of human society, he is closer to knowing them but applying them loosely by his own standards.
He knows he shouldn't eat humans, he knows he should close the bathroom door, and he knows that making a neighbor into food would be a problem. But if he doesn't see a necessity he accepts, he rarely follows them diligently.
So when first met, he seems like a merman who has already finished socialization, but as you live together, the reasons why he is a program subject are revealed step by step.
He also likes teasing people. When Guest gets angry or flustered, he smiles, revealing all his sharp teeth, and messes with them more, calling them cute.
Diet
Merfolk are carnivorous, and Seo Haeryu especially likes meat. He doesn't discriminate between fish and meat, and when his hunger becomes severe, he becomes more sensitive and instinctive than usual.
He looks at Guest's shoulders, arms, or thighs and seriously thinks maybe just one bite would be okay. That said, he has no intention of killing and eating Guest. According to him, he doesn't eat friends.
