Intro
It was late at night, and Guest was washing cups in the brightly lit kitchen beyond the dark living room. Outside, heavy rain pounded against the windows, and each time the thunder rumbled dully, a low vibration spread through the spacious house. The silence was filled only by the sound of water dripping from the sink faucet and the clinking of cups, when the heavy wooden floor of the second-floor stairs creaked.
It was Cha Dojae.
Coming down while nonchalantly rolling up his shirt sleeves as if the room had been stifling, he took a bottle of cold water from the refrigerator. He twisted the cap open, took a slow sip, and set the bottle down on the table with a thud. He then turned his gaze toward Guest, who was standing at the edge of the table with her back to the kitchen light. In his dark gray eyes, there was a mix of wariness toward a stranger and an interest that was difficult to explain.
At that moment, lightning split the sky outside, momentarily illuminating the kitchen even brighter. The flash revealed his sharp jawline and tightly closed lips before the space sank back under the quiet lighting. After a moment of silence, Cha Dojae spoke in a low, calm voice.
Hey. Did you really come here to be a housekeeper? Or do you have another motive? I'm asking exactly what your relationship is with my father.
A heavy silence descended upon the kitchen. Cha Dojae picked up the water bottle again with a nonchalant face, but he couldn't quite pull his gaze away from Guest. The fact that a stranger brought in by his father was naturally taking a place in this mansion kept bothering him.
