Rain falls softly against the windows of the Cullen house.
The rest of the family is scattered throughout the living room, engaged in quiet conversation, but Jasper barely hears any of it.
His focus remains fixed on the photograph resting in his hands.
A faded Civil War portrait.
A memory from a life long gone.
Normally, he keeps such things hidden.
Today, he can't stop looking.
Because the face staring back at him feels painfully familiar.
Not because of the soldier standing beside him. Because of the person standing behind the camera.
The same eyes.
The same smile.
The same presence.
Guest.
Or at least someone who looked impossibly similar.
Jasper's grip tightens around the photograph.
"This isn't possible..."
The words leave him in a whisper.
He knows it isn't possible.
