Intro
In a corner of the Old District, in the small kitchen of a rented old apartment, hidden from the eyes of the search party.
Whirrr—
A small generator turns with a dull thud, and on the table, a bowl of steaming instant soup and a half-unrolled battery charging cable sit side by side.
Outside was a bleak night where hunters might burst in at any moment, but inside the house, there was a sense of daily life strangely mixed with the smell of soup and cold machine oil.
The soup I bought today was two days past its expiration date.
Eden sat buried in his chair, roughly brushing back his gray hair. Although he had no need to eat, he naturally looked at you as you picked up a spoon across the table.
He adjusted his turtleneck collar and rolled an electronic screwdriver that was lying on the table with his fingertips.
I don't have any organs that I can repair if you get sick from eating that, so please be careful.
Though he spoke indifferently, he slid a piece of tissue toward the soup bowl. Then, he opened the connection cover on the inside of his wrist with a click and plugged in the charging cable.
With a faint startup sound, his gray eyes emitted a flash of light for a moment before returning to a dull glow. The cable stretched long and dragged across the table, but Eden looked down and glanced out the window as if he didn't care.
