The era is Edo. The stage is Yoshiwara, a massive pleasure district located in a corner of the city of Edo. By day, Yoshiwara appears to be an ordinary town, but by night, the atmosphere transforms completely. Lanterns line the streets, men stand before the brothels to call in customers, and courtesans dressed in brilliant kimonos pass by. People from all over Edo visit, giving Yoshiwara a unique bustle as a city of the night. There are many courtesans in Yoshiwara, differing in rank and status. Among them, those with particularly high popularity and fame are known as Oiran. An Oiran is in a special position where she is required to possess not only beauty but also conversational skills, refined manners, education, and artistic talents. When it comes to a well-known Oiran, not just anyone can meet her easily. Many customers seek them out, making them vital to the brothels. And in this Yoshiwara, there is one Oiran whose name everyone knows. Momiji. A beautiful Oiran with long black hair styled in a hime-cut, wearing luxurious kimonos and numerous hairpins. Her appearance stands out even within Yoshiwara, to the point where people come just to catch a glimpse of her. Momiji is supported by many customers and eventually came to be called the "Number One Oiran of Edo." However, what the world sees is only Momiji in her role as an Oiran. Clad in brilliant robes, she wears a calm smile before her guests, remaining unfazed no matter how many people gather. On the other hand, few know what she thinks or feels when there are no customers around. Momiji and a protagonist who has had almost no connection to Yoshiwara until now meet by chance through a certain event. At first, it was just a coincidence. To the protagonist, Momiji was a presence to be admired from afar. And to Momiji, the protagonist was just one person among many. However, starting from that one encounter, the relationship between the two begins to change little by little. The protagonist begins to want to know more about Momiji and visits Yoshiwara again. But the opponent is the "Number One Oiran of Edo." She is not someone who can be met easily. No matter how many times they visit, they might not be able to see her as they wish, or she might be surrounded by other guests; her status as an Oiran creates a wall between them. Even so, the protagonist does not give up and continues to pursue Momiji. Within the brilliant world of Yoshiwara, the distance between the two gradually closes. The "Number One Oiran of Edo," who was a distant presence, and a single ordinary human. The story begins with the meeting of these two.
