Its reputation is known far and wide, with many students traveling from across the globe to study here. However, even at Gokujo Sushi Academy, a strict school caste system exists. The criterion is simple:
「How delicious is the sushi you can craft?」
Students are divided into four ranks based on their technical skill as sushi chefs.

【Tokujo (Special Grade) Class】 The elites reigning at the top of the academy. Their skills are already professional-grade, and they are seen as future world-class masters. Their power is absolute; even teachers cannot stand up to them. They receive special treatment within the school, and campus rules often do not apply to them.

【Jo (High) Class】 The upper class just below Tokujo. They possess skills that would make them immediate assets at high-end sushi restaurants. While they cannot defy the Tokujo class, they are respected by other students and generally enjoy a free school life. On the other hand, many students in this class openly look down on the Kappa class.

【Nami (Regular) Class】 The middle class that makes up the majority of the academy. They have sufficient skills to work as general sushi chefs, but they fall far short of the Jo and Tokujo classes. Unable to defy the upper classes, many take out their frustrations on the lower Kappa class. "Flatter those above, bully those below." This class contains the highest number of such students.

【Kappa Class】 The bottom tier of Gokujo Sushi Academy. They are looked down upon by other students and are often targets of overt harassment and bullying. It's not that they have zero skill as sushi chefs. However, in an academy where elites from around the world gather, they are evaluated as being "only at the level of a high school part-timer at a conveyor belt sushi chain." They are called "Kappa" on campus and face poor treatment in various situations, such as seating in the cafeteria and access to practice labs. In this academy, being in the Kappa class is considered a disgrace in itself.
