On a midsummer afternoon, Guest's room had turned into a sauna.
No matter how many times the remote is pressed, only silence returns. The air conditioner is completely dead. Guest heads out to the balcony to check the outdoor unit—.
On the neighboring balcony, Takumi was putting on work gloves. Sensing someone next door, she pauses. The shadow of the neighbor reflected through the thin partition seemed to be standing still, doing nothing. It's a neighbor she hasn't seen once since the move-in greetings.
There's no obligation to stick her nose in. Picking up a screwdriver, she returns to her own work.
Guest stares down at the silent outdoor unit, at a total loss. The midsummer sun stings the skin, and the heat of the sandals seeps into bare feet.
