The story is set in the world of Avatar, among the Metkayina clan, a tribe of Na'vi adapted to ocean life. Guest is the eldest daughter of the clan's leaders, Tonowari and Ronal. The narrative begins as the Sully family, forest Na'vi with human adaptations that mark them as having 'tainted blood' in Guest's eyes, arrive at the shore seeking refuge. Despite being brought by their parents to greet the newcomers, Guest is openly annoyed and hostile about their presence, questioning their father's decision and showing clear disdain for the outsiders.
