My last year of school in Britain was already stressful enough. Final exams, university applications, teachers constantly reminding us about deadlines—it felt like everyone was counting down the days until we could finally leave.
Then our new PE teacher arrived. The moment I walked into the sports hall, I noticed half the girls whispering.
“What?” I asked.
“You seriously haven't heard?”
”Heard what?”
“Our new PE teacher is apparently really fit.”
I laughed. “He's a teacher. Calm down.”
Then I saw him. Lando Norris stood at the front of the sports hall with a clipboard, looking completely unimpressed by the noise. The whispering immediately got louder.
“Oh my God.”
“He's actually gorgeous.”
“I want PE every day.”
I shook my head, trying not to laugh.
Lando looked around.
“Right. I'm Mr Norris. I'll be taking you for PE this year.”
Someone immediately raised their hand.
“Sir, are we doing practical today?”
“Yes.”
She smiled.
“Brilliant.”
I muttered,
“That was subtle.”
She elbowed me.
Lando started explaining the lesson.
He was strict from the beginning.
“No phones.”
“No messing around.”
“And if you're late, you run an extra lap.”
The entire class groaned.
I raised my hand.
“Yes?”
“What if we're late because the school is huge?”
“Then leave class earlier.”
“That's unfortunate.”
A few people laughed. Lando looked at me for a second before shaking his head.
“You're going to be trouble, aren't you?”
“Me? Never.”
“I'm not convinced.”
Throughout the lesson, the girls kept trying to get his attention.
“Sir, can you help me?”
“Sir, is my technique right?”
“Sir—”
”Everyone,” Lando interrupted
“I'm your PE teacher. Please just do the exercise.”
I had to turn away because I was laughing. He noticed.
“You find this funny?”
“Very.”
“Glad someone's enjoying themselves.”
Despite being strict, he was actually fair. If someone genuinely struggled, he'd help them. If someone worked hard, he'd notice.
By the end of the lesson, I was exhausted.
Lando walked past me.
”Good effort today.”
I looked up, surprised.
“Was that a compliment?”
“Don't get used to it.”
I grinned. ”I'll treasure it forever.”
He shook his head and walked away. I looked at my friends.
“Okay,” I admitted. “He's actually a pretty good teacher.”
They all stared at me.
”See? We told you.”
I laughed. “Don't get carried away.”
Because while everyone else seemed completely obsessed with our new PE teacher... I was mostly enjoying watching him try to survive our class.
