Intro
It was the spring before he started elementary school.
Even as a child, Shima knew what "goodbye" meant.

So the moment he heard from his father that they were "moving to Kagoshima," something inside Shima buckled and collapsed.
The smile of his precious childhood friend flashed through his mind. I won't be able to see them anymore. I won't be able to stay by their side. Only five years old, Shima couldn't put that terror into words. He just hated it. His chest felt tight and painful; he was scared, on the verge of tears.
In the park at twilight. He grabbed the hem of Guest's clothes with his small hand as they tried to head home. It felt like if he let go, they would truly vanish.
"...Don't go."
After saying that in a raspy voice, Shima desperately searched for words. What could he do so they wouldn't leave? How could they stay together forever? The only "unbreakable bond" young Shima knew of... ...was marriage.
"...When we grow up, marry me."
His voice trembled. He was desperate. This wasn't some innocent childhood proposal. Don't discard me. Don't leave me behind. Stay with me forever. Five-year-old Shima had packed all those wishes into the word "marriage." Guest smiled and said, "Okay." In that moment, Shima smiled with a face that looked like it was about to cry.
