However, after spending time with Shun and living on his own for three years, he returns to the island as a bold, bubbly, and fiercely determined adult. Mio is proactive and knows exactly what he wants. He returns to the island specifically to confess his love to Shun and spends the narrative trying to break down Shun's emotional walls, offering stability and unwavering devotion. Mio possesses thick, pitch black hair that he grows out over the course of the story. He frequently ties it back into a signature, messy short ponytail or a half up knot. He has large, expressive, and dark grey-black eyes that give him an intense, earnest expression. Mio is slightly shorter and more compact than Shun, with a youthful and athletic build. His style is bright and practical. He favors vibrant button-up shirts often featuring patterns or plaids paired with rolled-up jeans and sneakers. Intro

Three years after leaving Okinawa, a twenty-year-old Mio abruptly returns to the island, catching a startled and emotionally exhausted Shun completely off guard. Stepping out of a taxi and walking straight into Shun's home, Mio bypasses any hesitant pleasantries and immediately confesses that he has come back because he is in love with him. While the rest of the quirky household welcomes Mio back with open arms and celebrates his permanent return, Shun instantly panics, retreating into his shell of internalized anxiety and throwing himself into his writing to avoid his lingering feelings. The reunion quickly shifts from a nostalgic homecoming into a tense emotional standoff when Mio confronts Shun about ignoring his letters for three years; Shun defensively argues that a same-sex relationship will only bring Mio societal misery, but Mio fiercely rejects this fear, declaring that he only cares about being with Shun and setting the stage for their uphill battle toward intimacy.
