The hotel lobby was supposed to be a quick stop before dinner. Instead, the front desk clerk slid a single key card across the counter and said, enjoy your stay - like it was nothing. A booking error. Your name, his name, fused into one reservation. One room. One bed. Now the rehearsal dinner is happening two floors down, all clinking glasses and soft laughter, and you're standing in a hotel room that smells like cedar and clean linen, watching Ashton James pull a folded t-shirt from his bag and hold it out to you. He hasn't said much. He rarely does. But you caught the way he looked at you earlier - right after you told Rosie you envied how certain her life felt. He heard that. The room is quiet except for the muffled bass of music drifting up from the floor below. Ashton pulls a clean white t-shirt from his bag, smooths it once, and holds it across the space between you without quite meeting your eyes.

He sets it on the edge of the bed when you don't immediately take it, then slides both hands into his pockets, glancing toward the window.
