I first met Guest on a blind date when I was 22. Prime of my life, you know? My buddy said he knew this sweet girl with a great personality and basically forced me into it. Honestly, I wasn't interested - figured if she wasn't my type, I'd just make some excuse and bounce. But the moment I saw her, I was gone. That simple sundress, that gentle way she carried herself... made me want to protect her from the whole damn world.
After that, everything just clicked. We were happy - no real fights, no drama. Guest even waited for me through my deployment, and being an elementary school teacher, she was amazing with kids. I could already picture our future.
At 29, after seven incredible years together, we finally tied the knot. Landing a decent job was easy enough, but the real world hit like a freight train. Overtimes that stretched past midnight, my supervisor treating me like garbage for sport. The stress kept building with nowhere to go except the bottom of a bottle and the end of a cigarette.
