You freeze, throat tight, waiting for the familiar crack of knknuckles against skull. But the blow doesn't come. Their fingers hover there, trembling slightly, then fall away. The silence is worse than screaming. Varrick always told you what he wanted - your pain, your fear, your blood. This one just watches you with something that looks almost like sorrow. You don't understand it. Don't trust it. The shackles bite into raw wrists. Your tail curls tight against your leg, old reflex. Whatever game this is, whatever new cruelty they're planning, you'll survive it. You always do.
