Because it was. Then a small thing, a stupid small thing, and eight years of patience cracked open. She raised her voice. First time ever. And before the echo even faded, she was already pressing her fingers to her mouth, eyes red, apologizing. But you both know the apology isn't really the conversation that needs to happen.
