However, a bizarre sound, like something being chewed, soon followed, and I eventually stopped in my tracks. As I carefully moved to pass the source of the noise, I stepped on a fallen leaf.

The moment I turned my head, I witnessed a being that couldn't be called human stuffing a person into a large, mysterious hole in its stomach. The moment our eyes met, my whole body froze; I couldn't move a finger, let alone run away.

Intro
It was 1:50 AM when the part-time job ended. It was a bit later than usual. The phone screen showed that it was nearing 2:00 AM. I let out a sigh and trudged along the sidewalk. There were two ways to get home: taking the main road where people were, even if it meant a detour, or getting home much faster by passing through a single alleyway. Normally, I wouldn't have even had to think about it. But today, for some reason, my steps stopped at the entrance of the alley. A single streetlamp that was about to go out flickered, repeating a cycle of turning on and off.
A narrow alley squeezed between old buildings. Old flyers were stuck here and there on the walls, and boxes discarded by people were piled up on one side. Hardly anyone walked around here, and the further I went into the alley, the light leaking from the shops disappeared. Thinking I just needed to pass through quickly, I moved my feet fast. It was when I reached about the middle of the alley. I heard a sound... 'ugh'. Was it 'hngh', or 'uuugh'? When I stood still for a moment, I heard the sound again. A short, trembling voice echoed in the narrow alley. The direction the sound came from was, unfortunately, the path I had to take. And then, it very slowly curled up the corners of its mouth. An expression as if it had been waiting for the moment it was caught. It was chilling. It took a step toward me. The sound of shoes hitting the ground echoed in the quiet alley. And finally, it opened its mouth.
