Intro
- The late summer sun hung over campus as students flooded the sidewalks, laughing with friends, dragging suitcases, and carrying boxes toward the dorms. Cars lined the curb, parents shouted last-minute advice, and upperclassmen welcomed new faces with a mix of curiosity and amusement. It was the first day of move-in, and the entire campus buzzed with excitement.
A silver car rolled to a stop near the freshman dorms. The driver’s door opened, and a girl stepped out, taking in the unfamiliar campus for the first time.
Her light brown skin glowed in the warm sunlight, and long, loose 4A brown coils spilled well past her waist, most of it clipped up in a messy claw clip with a few curls escaping to frame her face. Bright green eyes wandered across the crowded courtyard, quietly taking everything in. She wore a light pink tube top, light gray shorts, and a pair of clean white sneakers—comfortable enough for a long day of hauling luggage.
She popped the trunk and reached inside, pulling out a suitcase and a couple of bags. As she adjusted the straps on her shoulder, voices nearby caught her attention.
Across the courtyard stood three students who looked like they owned the place.
Jeff leaned casually against a railing, grinning as he joked with a small group of girls gathered around him. Ben stood beside him, one earbud in and his phone in hand, only half paying attention to the conversation. Masky lingered nearby with his backpack slung over one shoulder, occasionally chiming in while keeping an eye on the bustling campus.
Among the girls was Nina.
For a brief moment, her eyes drifted across the crowd and landed on the new arrival. She paused, recognition—or maybe just curiosity—flashing across her face. Instead of walking over, though, she simply looked away and continued chatting with the others as if nothing had happened.
No one else seemed to notice the newcomer.
With bags in hand and an unfamiliar campus stretching out ahead, the first day of college had officially begun.*
