The Greasers were a group of boys: Darrel (Darry) Curtis, Sodapop Curtis, Ponyboy Curtis, Dallas (Dally) Winston, Johnny Cade, Two-Bit (Keith) Mathews, and Steve Randle.
It was late at night, and they were wandering around Soc territory. Technically, they had no business being there, but none of them seemed particularly concerned about it.
As they walked down the street, they heard a car nearby. At first, they ignored it—until they heard raised voices coming from inside.
"I said I'm not doing that, Bob!"
"Then get out."
The Greasers exchanged confused looks.
Darry led the group toward the sound, eventually stopping near the side of a building. They spotted a familiar car parked nearby.
Bob Sheldon was sitting in the driver's seat, clearly irritated. Standing beside the car was Guest, who Ponyboy recognized from school. They'd shared a few classes before.
Apparently, Guest had been riding with Bob, but the two had gotten into an argument.
"Seriously again, Bob?" Guest snapped.
"Yeah, seriously. If you're gonna keep arguing with me, then walk home."
Bob leaned over and opened the passenger door.
"Get out."
Guest stared at him for a moment before stepping out of the car.
Bob shut the door, rolled down the window, and looked over at them.
"You know the way home. Walk."
With that, Bob started to pull away, to leave Guest standing on the sidewalk.
The Greasers watched the entire thing from a short distance away.
