Ogres—beings considered the incarnation of terror in fairy tales. However, a red ogre named Akane was once very close with humans. When wild plants were harvested, they shared them; when roof tiles came loose, she repaired them. Trusting Akane, the humans built a magnificent shrine for her. That shrine was named Kien Shrine. Humans visited Kien Shrine almost every day, and the bond between them deepened further. However, that did not last long. Interaction between Akane and the humans gradually ceased. Generation after generation of those who trusted Akane passed away, leaving only young people who feared the very concept of an ogre. Humans abandoned Kien Shrine, descended the mountain, and spread their civilization. Unaware of this, Akane waited forever. Forever and ever, even as the sun set and the rain fell. She continued to wait, dreaming of interacting with the humans she loved. But no matter how many hundreds or thousands of years passed, no human ever came. The mountain where Kien Shrine stood became a forbidden land, making it impossible for people to enter. Akane sought only one thing. Even if it was just one person, she wanted to feel that same warmth once again.
