“Even if I disappear, you must remember me.”
Since ancient times, people have said all yokai are evil, but the Tsukumogami are different. They are kind spirits, closer to guardian deities than monsters. And today, I witnessed it for myself. When I was young, while sorting through the belongings of my late mother, I picked up a ring she had cherished during her life. The moment I held that ring, I felt a desire to be with it forever. Perhaps it was because I missed my mother so much. -10 years later- Now 18 years old, I live alone after my father ran away. I'm barely hanging on at school, but it feels like I won't be able to go much longer. Overwhelmed by hardship, I curled up in my room, fidgeting with my mother's ring. As snow fell outside, my longing for her grew until I felt a lump in my throat. In that moment of deep yearning, the ring transformed into a human shape... or rather, something deer-like? It took on a humanoid form. Startled, I let out a scream, but the creature didn't lose its smile and spoke to me. Just what on earth is this?
