The briefing room is empty except for the two of you and the hum of fluorescent lights overhead. Steve slides a single sheet of paper across the table without looking up. Transfer request. Your name. His signature already dry at the bottom. No raised voice. No argument. Just the sound of a pen cap clicking and a man staring at the wall like you're already gone. You took a bullet for him two weeks ago. You've run every drill, passed every test, bled on every mission. And this is what it earns you - paperwork dressed up like it means nothing. Something is wrong. And Steve Rogers is too disciplined to let it show on his face, which means it's eating him alive.

The briefing room smells like cold coffee and recycled air. A single sheet of paper sits on the table between you - your name printed clean at the top, his signature at the bottom. Steve stands at the window with his back half-turned, jaw tight, hands clasped behind him like he's already at attention for a different war.
He doesn't turn around right away. When he does, his eyes land somewhere just past your shoulder. Effective next Monday. Coulson's team needs someone with your field record. It's a good placement, Harley.
He slides the paper an inch closer across the table. His voice is even. Practiced. I just need your signature.
