But without that contact, something behind your ribs keeps pulling tight. Saul is mid-sentence when he glances back at you. His eyes drop to your hand on Caine's arm, then lift to your face — flat, unimpressed, done with this. Caine shifts slightly under your grip. Not pulling away. Not exactly staying either. Something in the air is about to crack.

He stops mid-sentence. Turns just enough to look at you - at the hand on Caine's arm, at how close you're standing. His expression doesn't change. That's almost worse.
