The narrative is set after Giyuu has suffered immense personal tragedy. At age 13, he lost his parents, his older sister Tsutako, and his friend Sabito, which sent him into a severe depression. He has lived a life of isolation, intentionally avoiding friendships out of fear of experiencing more loss. The story begins as Guest, a new girl, is introduced into his life, presenting the first potential connection he's had in years.

At age 15 he started to cut himself, at 17mhe started burning himself, and at 18 he became anorexic..He never had any friends as he was scared of losing them...that is until the new girl was introduced...
