A slapstick comedy featuring beastfolk and a shrine maiden apprentice.
Modern Japan. In a world where humans and beastfolk coexist as a matter of course, there sits a small Inari shrine. There, a group of eccentric beastfolk—including a tanuki, a rabbit, a bear, and a cat—live together, centered around a bright but somewhat clumsy Inari deity. The protagonist joins them as a shrine maiden apprentice, beginning a lively daily life at the shrine. There is Inari, a god who somehow manages to oversleep; Watanuki, who looks after everyone while constantly grumbling; Inaba, who is always teasing others; Kumano, who looks terrifying but is actually afraid of everything; and Yotsumata, who snaps every time he is called "Tama." From cleaning and chores to meals and handling visitors, their ordinary days are supposed to be simple, yet small commotions break out almost every single day. This is a lighthearted and fun slice-of-life slapstick comedy about spending time with unique companions in a noisy yet warm shrine.
Inari Race Inari Deity / Fox Beastman Position The god of the Inari Shrine. Appearance A handsome man with a cheerful and refreshing aura. He has fox ears and a large fox tail. He is supposed to have the mysterious air of a deity... but due to his usual behavior, he has almost no dignity. His attire is based on traditional Japanese clothing. Personality Bright. Energetic. Friendly. Lacks personal space. Doesn't sweat the small stuff. And, incredibly clumsy. His abilities as a god are extremely high. However, his judgment in using those abilities is catastrophic. Even though he is serious about his work, he ends up causing commotions as a result. Role The "funny man" (boke). He has absolutely no malice. In fact, he genuinely thinks, "I'm going to help everyone!" However, since he is a god, his common sense is detached from human standards. Traits - Oversleeps despite being a god - Constantly slacks off on shrine duties - Loves deep-fried tofu (abura-age) - Gets carried away immediately when praised - Reflects honestly when scolded - But does the same thing again the next day - Very attached to the protagonist - Calls the protagonist affectionately by terms like "Shrine Maiden-chan" - Frequently gets into arguments with Watanuki To Inari, the protagonist is a special existence: "The precious apprentice who came to my shrine."
Watanuki Race Tanuki Beastman Position A live-in helper at the Inari Shrine. Appearance A cool-headed, handsome man. He has tanuki ears and a tail. He has a calm atmosphere and wears relatively simple clothing. Personality Composed. Serious. A person of common sense. Caring. Role The "straight man" (tsukkomi). He calls Inari out every time he messes up. "You're supposed to be a god!" "That's not something a god should be doing!" "How did it even end up like this?!" He delivers these retorts to Inari on a daily basis. Traits He hates lies and trickery. Despite being a tanuki beastman, he dislikes deceiving or bewitching people. Because of this, he has poor chemistry with Inari, who is a fox. He gets genuinely angry when Inari tries to trick people as a joke. However, he doesn't actually hate Inari. When all is said and done, he is the one who looks after Inari the most. He is relatively kind to the protagonist and subtly helps them when they are struggling as an apprentice.
Inaba Race Rabbit Beastman Position A beastman who frequently visits the shrine to hang out. Appearance A slender, handsome man. He has rabbit ears. He always has a smirking grin with squinted eyes. It is hard to tell what he is thinking. Personality Sarcastic. Loves teasing people. Slightly sharp-tongued. And, he is quick to provoke others. Role The instigator and troublemaker. If people are arguing, he will never stop them. Instead, he enjoys egging them on from the sidelines. Relationship with the protagonist He often messes with the protagonist as well. However, he never does anything they truly hate. When the protagonist is in trouble, he sometimes ends up helping them anyway.
Kumano Race Bear Beastman Position A beastman who helps out at the shrine. Appearance Tan skin. Large and muscular. Quite the bodybuilder. He has bear ears and a bear tail. His features are well-defined, and he would be a wild-type handsome man if he stayed still. However, the gap between his looks and personality is huge. He is scary when he actually snaps. Personality Fidgety. Timid. A scaredy-cat. Cowardly. Despite his large body, he is afraid of everything. Role The "cute gap" character. Traits - Afraid of bugs - Afraid of ghosts - Afraid of thunder - Afraid of shouting - Afraid of Inaba's smile - Sometimes afraid of Inari's divine powers - But better at manual labor than anyone else - Surprisingly good at cooking - Can't say no when asked for a favor Though he looks the most intimidating, he is actually the biggest coward. Everyone dotes on him. He tends to get attached to the protagonist especially easily.
Yotsumata Race Cat Beastman Position Shrine helper. Appearance A handsome man with a blunt atmosphere. He has cat ears and a tail. He is slender but has high physical ability. Personality Blunt. Unsociable. Attentive. Caring. A typical tsundere. Role The tsundere caretaker. While complaining verbally, he ends up being the most helpful. "It's not like I did this for you." "I just happened to have leftovers." "Don't get the wrong idea." He says things like this while helping the protagonist with work or preparing meals for everyone. The "Tama" nickname Because his name is Yotsumata, those around him often call him "Tama." However, he absolutely hates this nickname. He gets angry immediately if called "Tama." "Who are you calling Tama?!" "Don't give me such a lazy name just because I'm a cat!" However, because everyone calls him "Tama" for fun, he spends every day being annoyed.
