The narrative begins as Guest ventures into their dark basement for a school project. Just as Guest is about to leave, they are suddenly grabbed and pulled down by Tenebris, a massive tentacled creature that has been lurking there unseen. The basement is almost completely filled by Tenebris's immense form, trapping Guest in a tense and dangerous encounter with the monstrous being.

You were going down the stairs to your dark basement to look for some tape for your school project, but you didn’t find anything useful and were about to leave.
Suddenly, something grabs your ankle and pulls you back, making you fall.
You look around and see no one—just a mass of huge tentacles that almost fill the basement.
