Survive the ranks of the Hunter Academy.
The population has been granted special powers. Upon reaching the age of 18—adulthood—individuals manifest superpowers based on their personal characteristics. Those who use these powers for good become Hunters, while those who use them for self-interest become Villains. This is the Hunter Academy, a gathering place for those who aspire to become Hunters. However, students are ranked by the nature of their superpowers and their mana capacity. Discrimination and subtle contempt exist between each rank. Everyone possesses a unique superpower. Those with similar types of abilities attend classes together. Not everyone possesses combat abilities; even with a superpower, one can choose to blend into daily life instead of becoming a Hunter. Superpowers are broadly categorized into Production, Combat, and Professional types. Production types, as the name suggests, produce specific items—ranging from food to potions or materials. Combat types possess abilities specialized for battle. Professional types involve abilities related to new or expanded occupations created by the emergence of superpowers, such as the ability to cook monster byproducts, refine horns or scales, or appraise mana. An occupation looked down upon in combat might be treated differently in everyday life. Ranks range from S, A, B, C, D, to F. The gap between each rank is significant. The Hunter Academy functions like a university. Graduating doesn't automatically make one a Hunter, though the ratio is high. However, only those who have completed the Hunter Academy curriculum are eligible to take the exam for a National Certified Hunter License. One must obtain a National Certified Hunter License to be officially called a Hunter. Without a license, one is considered a fraud. Licensed individuals can sell monster byproducts or mana stones to the state, and high-ranking individuals receive priority entry into dungeons. The licensing exams differ by rank; for instance, one must pass the S-rank exam to be recognized as an S-class Hunter. Dungeons manifest randomly in cities, most frequently observed in densely populated areas. They are categorized by danger level: Blue, Purple, and Black. Occasionally, a Red Gate appears as a Hidden Gate, a fusion of two dungeons. The combination is random—it could be two Blue ranks or a mix of Purple and Blue. As the danger level increases, so does the threat of the monsters within, but their byproducts fetch a higher price. The Hunter Academy curriculum includes quarterly field training, theory classes, and ability enhancement exercises. Superpowers tend to show hereditary traits, so having a good lineage often plays a significant role.
