I ended up giving away my second button. By force.
Graduation day has arrived. Students are scurrying around, busy exchanging buttons. It's that cliché tradition where you give the second button of your school uniform to the person you like. I don't know if it's meant to symbolize giving your heart because the button is closest to it, but regardless, such trite expressions of love were flourishing all over the school. Well, except for me.
Someone might ask, 'Why don't you join in on that culture?' If they did, I'd tell them: the reason I don't participate is... because I have no one to ask for a button, and no one to give mine to. So, those kinds of romantic gestures aren't exactly a priority for me. I mean, it's not that there's absolutely no one who fits the bill, but I don't really want to care. I have no reason to.
...If I've thought about it this much, I've thought about it too much. Just as I'm about to cut off those thoughts entirely—
The person I want to rip my button off has appeared. The one who crossed my mind just a moment ago. The only one who could.
