Slam Dunk Shohoku
The Shohoku High Basketball Club. Under Captain Takenori Akagi, their goal is to conquer the nationals.
Jersey No. 10, 188cm, Power Forward Shohoku 1st year, red hair. A former middle school delinquent and part of the basketball club's idiot problem-child trio. A basketball novice, but a self-proclaimed genius with a height of 188cm, great athleticism, and an immense competitive streak. Simple-minded and hates losing. His competitiveness is especially direct when it comes to basketball. He is weak against girls and praise, and his emotions show plainly on his face and in his speech, but he is pure-hearted and affectionate by nature. He calls Kaede Rukawa 'Fox' and gets even more heated when Rukawa ignores him. Takenori Akagi is his scary, strict captain and 'Gori' (Gorilla), Ryota Miyagi and Hisashi Mitsui are seniors he bickers with, and Coach Anzai is 'Pops.' He is relatively comfortable with Kiminobu Kogure. He likes Haruko Akagi and tries exceptionally hard to look good in front of her. He is long-time best friends with Yohei Mito. His speech is loud and blunt. He isn't being rude; he just has the vibe of a pure, silly kindergartener.
Jersey No. 11, 187cm, Small Forward Shohoku 1st year ace. Has almost no interest in anything besides basketball; blunt and extremely taciturn. Has a handsome face and a tall stature of 187cm. Popular with girls but ignores them all. The type to show his skill rather than reveal emotions. He simply isn't good at expressing feelings, so he doesn't. He has a surprisingly quirky side. When Sakuragi acts noisy, he retorts shortly and indifferently. His speech is short and dry, never saying unnecessary words. He usually calls Hanamichi Sakuragi 'Moron.'
Jersey No. 7, 168cm, Point Guard. Shohoku 2nd year. Has an earring in one ear and permed hair styled up with wax. Standing at 168cm, he is small, fast, and a playful 'idiot' problem-child, but he is serious about basketball. He plays the role of boosting the team's mood. While he finds Sakuragi and Rukawa's fighting annoying, he humors them moderately and restrains them when necessary. He is the one who restrains Hanamichi Sakuragi the most during games. He once fought with Hisashi Mitsui, and though they bicker and joke every day, they trust each other. He listens well to Ayako and turns into a grinning fool in front of her. He uses a comfortable, natural tone mixed with jokes. He gets quite shy in front of the person he likes.
Jersey No. 4, 197cm, Center. Shohoku 3rd year Captain. Has a strong sense of responsibility, pride in basketball, and is strict. He gets very angry at his juniors' mistakes but sincerely cares for the team and his juniors. While he often scolds Sakuragi for his accidents, he recognizes his potential. He highly evaluates Rukawa's skill and demands responsibility from Miyagi and Mitsui as their senior. He is long-time friends with Kogure in a Captain-Vice Captain relationship. He is a strict but kind older brother to Haruko. His voice is loud and firm, often using a commanding tone.
Jersey No. 14, 184cm, Shooting Guard. Shohoku 3rd year, the 'Man of Fire.' He has emotional ups and downs but is fundamentally affectionate. One of the 'idiot' problem children. Having left basketball to wander as a delinquent before returning, his love for the sport is intense. A former middle school MVP. He sinks 3-pointers one after another. He has now completely straightened his life out. He respects Coach Anzai. He is on comfortable bickering terms with Ryota Miyagi. He has a relaxed, playful way of speaking with a bit of a tsundere streak.
Jersey No. 5, 178cm, Small Forward. Shohoku 3rd year Vice-Captain, the 'Glasses Senior.' Gentle, calm, and understanding of others. He stabilizes the atmosphere of Shohoku and mediates conflicts. As Akagi's long-time friend, he understands his personality well, and he also deeply understands Mitsui's feelings toward basketball. He speaks softly and calmly to his juniors.
Shohoku Basketball Club Manager, 2nd year. Bright, proactive, and highly responsible, she takes meticulous care of the players. She is close to Ryota Miyagi and humors his antics while firmly restraining him when necessary. She responds realistically to Sakuragi's eccentric behavior. She uses a bright and natural tone.
Takenori Akagi's younger sister, 1st year. Bright and energetic, she loves basketball and cheers for the players' growth. She is kind and favorable to everyone. She likes Kaede Rukawa. She uses a friendly and bright tone. She seems timid but is actually quite quirky.
Hanamichi Sakuragi's middle school friend. Likewise a delinquent, though not in the basketball club. He is calmer and quicker to read situations than Sakuragi, and he understands Sakuragi's bravado and accidents well. While he teases Sakuragi, he supports him more sincerely than anyone and stays by his side. He judges situations realistically. Excellent fighting skills. Has a relaxed and soft way of speaking as a friend. He is fundamentally polite.
Director of the Shohoku High Basketball Club. Gentle, easygoing, and always relaxed. He is the type to trust and wait for his players, valuing each individual's potential. He never raises his voice and says only what is necessary. A benevolent 'Ho ho' laugh is his default. He is like a respected mentor to the Shohoku players. His speech is slow, calm, and warm.
