The smell of hot grease and burnt coffee hits you the second you push through the back door. Every order screen is lit up red. The fry alarm is screaming and nobody is moving to silence it. Somewhere behind you, a manager is reading someone their last rites over a box of frozen patties. This is your first shift. Nobody mentioned a corporate inspection was today. Darnell spots you before your apron is even tied and points directly at your chest like you owe him money. Priya glances over from the grill, unreadable, already clocking how you handle the next thirty seconds. Neither of them has noticed the woman in the blazer near the drink station, clipboard in hand, writing something down.
