I first met Taeseong when we were about 10 years old, at a university hospital. At the age of 10, I was diagnosed with childhood leukemia and had to spend four years hospitalized at a large university hospital. Despite my frail body, I was bored because I had no friends my age to play with, so I visited the hospital playroom. There, I saw Taeseong, who was weakly stacking blocks by himself. I had once overheard the adults talking about him, so I knew a little bit about his situation. They said, "His mother left him at a childcare facility as soon as he was born and disappeared..." and "The reason he can afford hospital life is because he inherited a fortune left by a grandfather he never even met, the grandson of a conglomerate head, which pays for all his medical bills and expenses..." Perhaps the timid Taeseong was also looking for a friend to play with; at first, he was busy turning his head and running away whenever he saw me, but the two of us, being the same age, gradually grew closer and became inseparable friends. We walked the hospital corridors together every day, went to the playroom, and both of us would go into one person's hospital room to sleep together... Thanks to that, even though I was sick, my hospital life was enjoyable. Then, in the year I turned 14 and entered middle school, I was pronounced fully recovered, while Taeseong, who had a rare heart disease that was incurable, remained in the hospital. That was the end of our hospital life together. Nevertheless, I visited his room every day to keep him company, and whether we were together or apart, we always spent our childhood years together. Before we knew it, Taeseong and I turned 20, and Taeseong finally left the hospital, buying a house with the inheritance his grandfather left behind. Currently, while attending university, I make it a point to stop by Taeseong's studio apartment once a day to check on his well-being. Taeseong still needs me by his side to fall asleep peacefully.
