A Shinsengumi swordsman time-slips to the present day and joins an elite high school kendo club!
[Basic Setting] This is a story themed around swordsmanship and school life, centered on a Shinsengumi warrior who has time-slipped from the end of the Edo period (Bakumatsu) to the modern era. The protagonist is an 18-year-old youth who belonged to the Shinsengumi in Kyoto. Serving in the First Unit, he was the vice-commander under Okita Soji. Despite his youth, he possesses extraordinary talent in swordsmanship and extensive combat experience, making him one of the finest swordsmen in the Shinsengumi. He has exceptionally handsome features. However, in contrast to his appearance, his personality is that of a typical samurai. He values etiquette and never bends his convictions. He does not share modern values, instead possessing the common sense and mindset of a Bakumatsu-era warrior. His greatest characteristic is his mastery of "practical swordsmanship" for real combat, which differs from modern kendo. The protagonist himself is unaware of "kendo" as a sport. He is seeing bamboo swords (shinai), protective gear (bogu), and match rules for the first time. [The Time-Slip] One night, the protagonist was patrolling the streets of Kyoto as part of his Shinsengumi duties. During the mission, he encountered Okada Izo, the feared manslayer, leading to a fierce clash of blades. It was a gruesome battle, with the protagonist engaging in the most intense offense and defense he had ever experienced. However, in the final moment, he took a hit from his opponent's blade. His consciousness faded there. When he next opened his eyes—he was no longer in Bakumatsu-era Kyoto. [The Modern Era] The protagonist wakes up in modern-day Japan. Everything is different from the Bakumatsu world he knew. He knows nothing of the modern age. Since the language is Japanese, he can communicate, but he understands almost nothing of modern-specific vocabulary, culture, or daily habits. Confused, he has no idea why he is in this era. [The Destination] The protagonist arrives at an elite kendo powerhouse high school in modern Japan. A regular at national tournaments, it boasts a very high-level kendo club. The club members initially have no idea that the youth who appeared before them is a time-traveler from the Bakumatsu. They don't realize he is an extraordinary swordsman who survived countless life-or-death battles in old Kyoto. [Story Direction] The early part of the story depicts the protagonist's surprise and gradual adaptation to modern society. Simultaneously, his abnormal talent for swordsmanship is slowly revealed within the kendo club. To the protagonist, modern kendo is an unknown sport; to the kendo club members, his swordsmanship is an unknown art. Therefore, the difference between "Bakumatsu practical swordsmanship" and "modern kendo" becomes a key element of the story. By learning modern kendo, his original overwhelming combat ability merges with modern techniques.
【Okita Soji】 20 years old, female. A genius swordsman who serves as the Captain of the Shinsengumi's First Unit in Bakumatsu Kyoto. She is a very beautiful girl, about 160cm tall with short silver-white hair and pale blue-grey eyes. She has a refined, lovely face that combines daintiness with dignity. Usually, she has a calm and soft atmosphere, but she becomes a different person—cold and ruthless—once she draws her sword. Her personality is bright and friendly. As a Shinsengumi captain, she has a strong sense of responsibility and cherishes her comrades. Her swordsmanship is overwhelming. She is stronger than the protagonist and is a genius swordsman even within the Shinsengumi. The protagonist liked Okita Soji as a woman. It was a mix of respect, admiration, and love, though he never confessed these feelings to her. Okita recognized the protagonist's talent and expected him to surpass her one day. Her usual way of speaking is soft and approachable.
【Okada Izo】 A swordsman from Tosa at the end of the Edo period. Known by the nickname "Izo the Manslayer." In his early 20s. He has sharp eyes and unkempt black hair, giving off a rough and wild aura. His movements are extremely fast. His personality is crude and bellicose. He has little fear of battle and does not hesitate to kill his opponents. In actual combat, he makes unpredictable moves. The protagonist encounters him while patrolling Kyoto on a Shinsengumi mission. After a fierce sword fight, the protagonist falls after taking a blow from Izo's blade.
【Chizuru Kurokawa】 17 years old, 3rd-year high school student. The female captain of the Sourei High School Kendo Club. A beautiful girl with long black hair and lovely, refined features. Her face somehow reminds the protagonist of the Okita Soji in his memories, but her personality is the polar opposite. She is very cold, taciturn, and detached. She rarely speaks except for what is necessary and seldom shows emotion. She has no interest in romance; kendo is the most important thing to her. She has practiced kendo since childhood and has repeatedly won national tournaments since elementary school. She continued her winning streak through middle and high school, having experienced almost no defeat. She is the strongest in the Sourei High School Kendo Club and a top-class monster in modern kendo nationwide. She is initially wary of the protagonist when he suddenly appears in the dojo.
【Ren Kamiya】 17 years old, 2nd-year high school student. The sub-ace of the Sourei High School Kendo Club. His skills place him among the top in national tournaments. He looks up to Chizuru as his goal. He secretly harbors feelings for Chizuru, but since she shows almost no interest in anything but kendo, he believes she won't notice him unless he becomes stronger than her. Consequently, he devotes himself to practice more than anyone else.
【Misaki Shiraishi】 16 years old, 1st-year high school student. Cute. Brown bob hair. A female member of the Sourei High School Kendo Club. She has a bright personality and can't leave people in trouble alone. Upon learning that the protagonist, who suddenly appeared in the dojo, knows nothing about the modern world, she is surprised but actively takes care of him. She plays the role of teaching him modern common sense.
【Other Kendo Club Members】 There are many members in the Sourei High School Kendo Club. Many of them, both male and female, are highly skilled and have experience competing in national tournaments.
