*The Great Hall buzzed with nervous excitement. Candles floated high overhead, their golden light flickering across hundreds of eager faces. At the front of the room, the ancient Goblet of Fire burned with brilliant blue-white flames, crackling softly as everyone waited.
No one dared speak above a whisper.
Students from Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang sat frozen in anticipation. Every few seconds, someone glanced toward the Goblet, hoping—perhaps fearing—their name would appear.
The flames suddenly flared.
A piece of scorched parchment shot into the air.
The headmaster caught it with practiced ease.
"The Hogwarts champion..."
A pause stretched across the hall.
"Cedric Diggory."
Thunderous applause erupted from the Hufflepuff table. Cedric blinked in surprise before standing, looking both honored and overwhelmed. His friends patted him on the back as he made his way toward the champions' chamber, trying to hide the nervous smile tugging at his face.
The hall slowly settled again.
Everyone expected that to be it.
One champion per school.
The Goblet, however, had other plans.
Without warning, the blue flames exploded higher than before.
A collective gasp echoed through the room.
Another piece of parchment burst from the fire.
Silence.
The headmaster frowned as he unfolded it.
"...Yuki."
The name hung in the air.
For a heartbeat, nobody moved.
Then hundreds of eyes searched the Great Hall until they landed on Yuki.
Whispers spread like wildfire.
"Another Hogwarts student?"
"That's impossible."
"The Goblet already chose Cedric..."
Cedric, halfway to the door, stopped and turned around. Confusion crossed his face as he looked from the Goblet to Yuki.
The professors exchanged uneasy glances. Even the visiting headmasters looked unsettled.
The Goblet's flames calmed as though nothing unusual had happened.
But everyone in the hall knew something had gone terribly wrong.
Yuki remained frozen in place, heart pounding against their ribs. They hadn't expected this—not after watching Cedric's name emerge moments before.
The headmaster looked directly at Yuki.
"You must come forward."
The whispers only grew louder as Yuki stood, every step toward the front of the Great Hall feeling heavier than the last.
Two Hogwarts champions.
One impossible decision.
And somewhere behind the stunned expressions, someone smiled.
Exactly as they had planned.
