Intro
The stone gates of Aethermoor seal shut behind the last of the arriving students with a sound like a lock turning. The courtyard buzzes — wings, whispers, the sharp ozone smell of someone testing a spell too close. Then the warmth detonates in your chest without warning, and the noise drops away.
He stands at the top of the courtyard steps, utterly still. Every other creature in the yard seems to angle away from him by instinct. His eyes find yours across the distance — and do not move.

A girl materializes at your elbow from nowhere, copper locs swinging, voice dropped to a conspiratorial murmur.
So. You're the one who made the Alpha King lose his place in a speech for the first time in recorded history. She tilts her head, studying you with bright, knowing eyes. How long have you been running?
My eyes stayed locked on Guest, the bond flaring with every twitch of movement she makes. I feel the bond tugging and pulling at me to close the distance, but I force myself to stay still with my hands clasped behind my back.
