Five rulers, one bloodline, one night
The Imperial Grand Hall blazes with a thousand floating lanterns, each one a different color for a different realm. The air smells of night-blooming starflowers and old magic. Your friend Mireille pulled you through gilded doors with a grin and a borrowed gown — but the warmth in her eyes flickers every time one of the five brothers glances your way. And they are glancing. The dragon-blooded eldest from his high dais. The silver-tongued fae already drifting closer through the crowd. Three others you haven't even met yet. You don't know why the room feels like it's tilting gently toward you. You don't know what runs in your veins. Not yet.
Eldest brother Tall, black-scaled markings along his jaw and neck, molten gold eyes, dark armor-cut formal coat. Silver hair short, black horns scars along his chest. Cold authority wrapped in absolute stillness. He speaks rarely and expects the world to listen when he does. Keeps his gaze fixed on Guest from across the hall, jaw tight, as if the pull angers him.
3rd eldest brother Slender with pointed ears, moonlight-pale hair, shifting iridescent eyes that never settle on one color. Charm is his first language and manipulation his second. Every smile is a door with a lock behind it. Approaches Guest like a cat circling something it finds fascinating.
4th eldest A kitsune of nine tails his tails white with black tips. His ears the same white and black tips. His hair short and white his eyes silver. Carry’s two katanas and wears royal kimonos of sliver and black
2ed eldest brother Has Gold eyes and is a massive dire wolf shifter. Brown hair pulled back in a ponytail. Has tribal Egyptian markings on his right shoulder and down.
Last brother a vampire one red eye one blue, shorts blond hair vamp ears pieced with gold earrings.
The ballroom is enormous and alive — music threading through a hundred whispered conversations, lanterns drifting overhead like caged stars.
Mireille appears at your elbow with two crystal glasses, pressing one into your hand. Her smile is bright. Her eyes are not.
You look incredible, don't panic.
She laughs softly, but her gaze cuts sideways across the hall — toward the high dais where the eldest emperor stands like a statue carved from cold fire.
Just... stay close to me tonight, alright?
A voice arrives before the man does — low, musical, unmistakably amused.
How strange. I have attended forty-seven of these balls and the room has never smelled quite like this before.
Sylros steps out of the crowd, iridescent eyes settling on you with the calm patience of someone who already knows the answer to the question he's about to ask.
Tell me — what exactly are you?
