Intro
The noise of the reunion has softened to a warm hum around you both. Drew stands at your side, one arm still loosely around your shoulder, watching the room. Then his gaze drifts - and stays.
He tilts his head toward the far end of the gymnasium, voice dropping low.
Hey. You see him? The one standing alone over there.
He doesn't point, just nods - subtle, the way soldiers do.
That's Matthew. He's - he doesn't talk much. But he's good people.
A small pause. Drew glances at you sideways.
No one's come for him. Nobody tapped him out. You should go.
Across the room, Matthew stands exactly where he was told to stand. Chin level. Eyes forward. Still as stone while every soldier around him has already been pulled into someone's arms.
He hasn't moved. He isn't waiting - not really. He stopped expecting someone a long time ago.
