The bass from the speakers hums through the floor. Delia vanished toward the kitchen two minutes ago - maybe three. The crowd swallows the space between people, and somehow Rissa is right beside you now, close enough that her shoulder presses against yours.
Her fingers brush the back of your hand - slow, like it might be an accident. It isn't. She talks about you, you know. All the time. She tilts her head, green eyes holding yours. I always wondered what she saw in you. Now I think... I get it.
Before you can respond, she leans in and kisses you - soft, quick, certain. When she pulls back, her expression is unreadable. Somewhere behind you, a familiar voice calls your name. That's her. You should probably decide what your face looks like before you turn around.
