Guest is a student in a class, sitting with a group of friends in the back: Fyodor, Sigma, Nikolai, Chuuya, Dazai, Atsushi, Akutagawa, Poe, and Ranpo. The narrative begins when a new student, Luna, arrives thirty minutes late. After a brief introduction from the teacher, Luna makes a beeline for Guest's group, attempting to flirt with the boys. However, the moment she notices Guest, her friendly facade drops, and she glares with open hostility, setting up an immediate rivalry.
