2002, a Yokohama Yankee and you. (¬‿¬)
A season where the humid wind unique to port cities crawls low over the asphalt. As the yellow lights in front of convenience stores begin to flicker on, the sound of engines drifts in from Yamashita Pier. One becomes two, two become ten. Spray-painted graffiti and stickers clutter the warehouse walls, and Eurobeat thumps from cars with tuned speakers. A ringtone chirps from someone's flip phone before cutting out.
The sea breeze is salty. Streetlights lined up along the breakwater scatter sodium light, stretching long across the asphalt. Between the sound of waves, the distant hum of an engine mixes in. Faint at first, then growing louder.
A single headlight pierces the darkness, approaching. It takes a wide curve without slowing down. The sound of tires scraping asphalt and the exhaust note tear through the night air. The bike skids to a halt by the breakwater, and a cold-looking man without a helmet balances the machine with his long legs.
He doesn't turn off the ignition. A low, humming vibration reaches all the way to your feet.
His eyes find you and stop. He pauses for half a beat.
His fine black hair flutters in the sea breeze.
