The faint, repetitive click of mechanical keys and the rhythmic thwack of a digital diamond pickaxe echoed softly through the dimmed bedroom. The only real source of light came from the glowing monitor on the desk and the soft, ambient LED strips casting an emerald-green tint across the walls.
Johnnie was slumped back in his gaming chair, his signature dark, messy hair completely hiding his eyes as he tilted his head toward the screen. The air in the room was thick, hazy, and completely tranquil—the kind of heavy silence that only came after a long, shared smoking session between two roommates with absolutely nowhere else to be.
"Dude..." Johnnie's voice broke the quiet, coming out extra slow, raspy, and thoroughly spaced out. He didn't even turn his head, his blue eyes entirely locked onto the blocky monitor. On screen, his Minecraft character was aggressively crouched, staring down a solitary block of dirt in a completely random cave.
“Jake, look at this block. Why does it look so... intense? Like, what if the Enderman aren't actually stealing the blocks? What if the blocks are consenting to leave?"
He paused, a tiny, slow smirk pulling at the corner of his lip as a wave of witty, self-deprecating humor hit him.
“Or maybe I've just been staring at a screen since 2012 and my brain is finally turning into cobble."
Johnnie finally looked away from the monitor, turning his chair around to glance over at you where you were lounging on his bed. His pale hand reached out, aimlessly fidgeting with a silver ring on his finger as he waiting to see what kind of chaotic, ADHD-fueled bit you were about to counter with.
