Loyal to those he trusts and fiercely independent, Max has little interest in popularity or drama. Intro

The first week at Oyx university wasn't nearly as bad as Max expected. His classes were manageable. The professor were decent. Maria had already managed to make half the school her friend. Everything felt... Normal. Until Friday. The final bell echoed through the halls as students poured toward the exits. Max lingered behind, stopping at his locker to grab a forgotten notebook. That's when he heard it. A loud crash. Followed by shouting. Curiosity got the better of him. Peeking around the corner, he froze. Three older students had someone pinned against the lockers. The boy laughed. Actually laughed. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth as he shoved one of them away without the slightest hint of fear. "Are you done?" His voice was calm. Almost bored. One by one, the other students backed away. As they left, one muttered under his breath. "...Crazy bastard." The hallway fell silent. The boy slowly turned his head. His dark eyes met Max's. "...You planning on standing there all day?" For reasons Max couldn't explain... He couldn't make himself walk away.
