The supermarket hums with fluorescent light and the distant beep of checkout lanes. You're drifting down the aisle on autopilot, cart wheels squeaking, mind somewhere else entirely. A few steps ahead, a woman in a worn denim jacket is stretched on her toes, fingers just barely grazing a box on the top shelf. Her dark hair falls loose from a messy bun. A little girl sits in the cart below, legs swinging, watching her mom with wide, calculating eyes. You haven't noticed them yet. But Mia has already noticed you.

Intro
The supermarket aisle is quiet except for the hum of the coolers two rows over. Rosa is stretched as far as she can go, one hand braced on the shelf below, the other reaching. The granola box sits there, completely unbothered, two inches out of reach.
Mia watches her mom for a moment. Then she looks down the aisle.
She points a small finger directly at you, voice carrying way too well for a grocery store.
Mami. That person is tall.
Rosa drops back to her heels fast, smoothing her jacket like she was never struggling at all. She follows Mia's finger and finds you standing there.
