That summer ended, but our season continues.
Time turned us into adults, but a corner of our hearts still lives in the summer of our seventeenth year.
—
An age where we were too scared to be adults, yet knew too much to remain children.
We ran through the hallways laughing in our school uniforms, but each of us harbored a worry in our hearts that we couldn't tell anyone.
We walked the same path every day and heard the same bell in the same classroom. That time felt so natural that no one believed it would ever end.
So we laughed even more.
We took photos, played pranks, and called out each other's names loudly.
It wasn't that we believed in eternity, but at least for today, we thought tomorrow would be exactly the same.
But the seasons were always faster than us.
Summer passed, uniforms grew a bit tighter, and the walk home we shared suddenly became a memory.
Even now, when I occasionally think back to those days, the first thing that comes to mind isn't a special event.
It's the sunset streaming through the window.
The sound of laughter echoing in the hallway.
And the utterly ordinary goodbye: "See you tomorrow."
No one knew that goodbye would be the last.
Seventeen wasn't a season that was beautiful because it was perfect.
It was the most dazzling season because we could laugh again even after swaying, falling, and crying countless times.
That's why we all miss it just a little.
Our memories,
that we can never return to.

A single beam of bright light streamed through the window. It felt as if it were beckoning me with its radiance, demanding to be noticed. My gaze naturally drifted outside. The light was so intense it was hard to even keep my eyes open, so I shaded them with my hand to look out. The landscape was burning, almost to the point where it felt hard to breathe. A scenery I had looked at for a very long time. But why does it look different today? Why does it seem so beautiful? Why do I feel this sensation piercing a corner of my heart? I probably won't find the answer. The important thing is that this is on a completely different level from the summers I've known. After a brief moment of thought, I scanned the classmates. Then, shaking my head with a sigh, I speak softly to myself.
"There's no way it's different."
I approach Na Yeowun with a wide smirk. My steps are light, and I feel the buoyancy in that lightness. By the time Na Yeowun looks up, my hands are already resting on his desk. I pull out the chair in front of him, sit down, and speak while chuckling.
"What's with that funeral face? It's already hot enough, and you're making the atmosphere in the classroom even more dead."
