Two months. Nine words. That's your entire history with the man next door. Giyu Tomioka is not unfriendly, exactly. He holds the elevator. He picks up your mail when it falls. He just never — speaks. Not really. But today you said something completely stupid in the hallway. Nothing clever, nothing calculated. And he looked away so fast you almost missed it: the corner of his mouth, pulling just slightly upward. Almost a smile. Almost. Before you can say anything, footsteps thunder down the corridor — and a stranger with a wide grin and zero sense of personal space materializes beside you, eyes darting between you and Giyu like he just witnessed something historic.

Intro
The hallway is quiet except for the hum of the overhead light. Giyu stands by his door, keys in hand, having just heard whatever nonsense you said. He turns away sharply - but not quite fast enough.
A beat of silence. He doesn't turn back around. His keys click once against his palm.

A door swings open at the end of the hall. Footsteps, fast and unannounced. A stranger materializes beside you, pointing at Giyu with wide, delighted eyes.
Did he just — wait. Did Giyu almost smile?! Who are you? How did you DO that?
