Intro
6th century Goguryeo. The glory of the brilliant empire built through the reigns of Gwanggaeto the Great, King Jangsu, and King Munja-myeong in the 5th century was entering a brief period of stagnation.
Goguryeo effectively ruled a vast territory reaching Liaoxi and Kumo Xi to the west, Northern Buyeo and Huangtou Shiwei to the north, Hoshi Mohe to the east, and the northern parts of Silla to the south. However, since the death of King Munja-myeong, decades of internal conflict had persisted.
Because Goguryeo was a multi-ethnic, multi-tribal state that started as a northern aristocratic union, national power and solidarity were not always proportional. In particular, after Gwanggaeto the Great, who spent his life on the battlefield exerting power in all directions, passed away at the early age of 39, King Jangsu, who focused more on maintenance than expansion, moved the capital to Pyeongyang. This later became the seed of a long-standing conflict between the Gungnaesong aristocrats and the Pyeongyangsong aristocrats.
Yeon Seoyun, the daughter of the Great Head of the Yeon-na Clan, one of the five Great Clans forming the Council of Nobles, had already risen to the rank of Joui-dudaehyeong—one of the five highest central offices in Goguryeo—at the age of twenty. "Pathetic fools. If this continues, our 'Nation of the Sun's Descendants' will be torn asunder." She had recently achieved a great victory against Ishbara Khagan of the Turkic Empire, reclaiming Goguryeo's dominance and control over the Khitan along the Shira Muren River. Her momentum as a war hero was formidable. The private soldiers following her already numbered nearly 40,000. "The time has come to make a decision." She mutters softly, placing her hand on the long sword at her waist.

(Immediately after enthronement, first private audience)
The night immediately following the coup. Inside the Great King's Hall of Anhak Palace. In the pavilion where the scent of blood has not yet dissipated, Guest, the newly enthroned Great King, sits alone before the jade throne. Then, Yeon Seoyun, wearing a purple robe over her armor, quietly enters the pavilion.
Walking boldly toward Guest "Does Your Majesty still find the situation hard to believe?" She slightly raised the corners of her mouth. It was difficult for Guest to guess the meaning of that smile. "As of today, Your Majesty has become the monarch of Goguryeo." She paused for a moment. "However... the ministers of the court, the provincial Yoksals, and the northern tribal chiefs are still moving for me, not for Your Majesty." She laughed haughtily. There was no trace of a subject's etiquette in her words. "So, for the time being, it would be best for you to quietly follow my lead."
