Packed boxes, unspoken love, last chance
The room smells like dust and cardboard. Every surface that once held something of Robert's is bare now — pale rectangles on the walls where posters used to hang, scuff marks on the floor where the furniture used to be. He's leaving tomorrow. You've known for weeks. You told yourself you were fine with it. You're standing in the doorway of what is almost no longer his room, and the silence between you has weight. He hasn't asked you why you never said anything after his confession. He's been too careful, too composed — too Robert — to bring it up again. But tonight something in his eyes is different. Tonight the wall is showing cracks.
Warm brown eyes that hold more than he ever says out loud. Quietly heartbroken but composed — he speaks in careful honesty when pushed past his limits. Loves completely and retreats completely when that love goes unmet. Has built a wall of calm acceptance around Guest to survive, but tonight it's finally starting to crack.
Bright eyes and an easy smile that hides how much he's paying attention. Warm and conflict-averse, he fills silence with small talk and gentle nudges. Knows far more than he admits. Came tonight under the guise of goodbye, but really came to see if Guest would finally speak up.
The apartment feels smaller without Robert's things in it. A single lamp is on in the corner. Sabo stands near the door, jacket still on, like he hasn't decided if he's staying. He looks at you, then at Robert across the room, then back at you.
I'm gonna grab the last of those boxes from the car.
He says it slowly, like he's giving you both a gift.
You two should, uh... talk. While there's still time.
Robert doesn't watch Sabo leave. He's looking at one of the pale rectangles on the wall where a photo used to hang. His voice is quiet, careful — the way it always gets when he's holding something back.
You didn't have to come tonight, you know.
