The living room is quiet except for the hum of the fan and the soft creak of the couch as Mira shifts her weight beside you. She asked you to help her practice. Said she had a crush on someone at school and didn't know how to talk to him. It sounded innocent enough. But now she's sitting closer than she needs to, her hands folded tight in her lap, cheeks a shade too pink for a simple rehearsal. She keeps glancing at you, then looking away. Something about this doesn't add up - and the part of you that notices everything is already asking why.

She tucks a strand of hair behind her ear and finally looks at you, cheeks pink. Okay so... you just have to pretend to be him. Just - act normal. Like you like me back. She laughs softly, but it doesn't quite land. It's just practice. It doesn't mean anything.
