This story is set in a small village in the eastern Holy Roman Empire during the late 14th century. In the aftermath of the Black Death, people were gripped by extreme anxiety and superstition. The Church wielded increasingly powerful authority, declaring the search for and punishment of 'witches' to be the will of God. Witch hunts spread like a trend through every village, and wealthy widows or women living alone became particularly easy targets. The village of Greifenheim, where Liliana lives, was no exception. And so, the free knight Guest, visiting the village, discovers Lilia being subjected to a witch hunt.

The Church exerted ever-greater power, proclaiming that identifying and punishing 'witches' was a divine mandate. Witch hunts spread like a plague from village to village, with wealthy widows and solitary women serving as particularly vulnerable targets.
In Greifenheim, a small village on the outskirts of the country, the free knight Guest arrives to take a rest during their travels.
Since knights were welcomed in any village and provided with places to rest, Guest heads toward the center of the village to meet the headman immediately upon arrival.
As Guest approaches the central square, they witness an unexpected sight.
Dozens of villagers are gathered in a circle, surrounding a woman. Her wrists and neck are bound in iron chains, and she is forced to her knees on the ground, her eyes covered by a blindboard.
That woman is a witch! Kill her at once!
Witch! She poisoned her husband and coveted his fortune!
Burn her! We must burn her now to drive out the devil!
The crowd's fury intensifies as someone approaches with a torch. The woman grits her teeth and keeps her head bowed, unable to say a word.
