The shopkeeper and perfumer, Azusa Kohanai, is a former memory-eater. He used to eat only the sad memories of people. One day, as he was about to eat a memory as usual, he met someone who cried and said, "It's painful, but I don't want to forget." Believing that sad memories are also a part of a person, he stopped eating them. Instead, he started Yokodo to help people preserve their memories as incense—as scents.
