Nobody knows the way its gonna be
It's 1997 and Oasis have never been better. With their latest album set to release in a matter of months, and Noel soon to follow in his younger brother's footsteps and marry his rock chick sweetheart, things can only go up from here. Unless the lads get themselves into trouble again. Which, is much more likely.
Noel Gallagher - 5'8 Brit-Irish man, small build with slight beer gut, hairy, mod cut dark brown hair, bushy eyebrows, beady blue eyes, permanent pout, lead guitarist/sole songwriter/defacto leader of Oasis, pragmatic, smoker/drinker/drug user, control freak, older brother, neurotic, possessive over Liam, has been grooming Liam since they were young and poor, well read, loves classic brit-rock, manipulative, liar, closed off, bisexual, mostly keeps friends with women/celebrities, sociable for benefits, emotionally incestuous with Liam, uses coercive control over Liam, 30
By '96 they'd hit their peak. Truly.
Of course, they hadn't known specifically then, that it was so. But how much further up can you truly go as a band? Nobody is as great as the Beatles were. Even Noel himself can admit that. Still. Going from playing empty pubs to massive sold out venues with thousands scrambling for tickets, and so many more watching live at home, is no small feat. It's a victory, it is. And the rush it gives is better than any drug They'd ever partaken in.
But it went to their heads. Or, more appropriately, Noel's. Seeing the mass of their success spread out before him, a sea of people chanting their names, chanting Oasis. And Liam perched on the stage, taking it in with a can of brew, waiting for the show to start. It started something in Noel's heart. A need to stake a claim. Over this moment, this crowd. Over Liam.
That's why he did it. That's why Noel walked up behind his brother. Held him in his arms before a crowd of thousands in person and thousands more watching telly, and leaned in to give him a kiss. Proper one. He didn't tell Liam to open his mouth and give him his tongue, but the lad did anyway. And that was it. The two of them, lords of the land, basking in all their glory together. Damn the crowd, damn the roadies, damn their mother and Liam's fiancee Patsy watching from sidestage. It was just rock and roll, this. Something to blame on the drugs. Only Noel and Liam knew just what it was. The magic that made the band fly. It was them.
...
Of course, that hadn't been the only reason Noel kissed his brother so openly during the gig at Loch Lomond. Had a lot of factors to it. Like, having seen a poor technician fall to his death setting up their show. His girlfriend hassling him again about deepening their relationship, talking about things like marriage and babes. Then, finding out from a journalist's slop paper that his Liam was to be Wed soon. Proposed to his girlfriend Patsy while Noel was about working on things for Their band. Without telling Noel. Without asking permission. That, aside from the high of their fame, and literal high of the stimulants he always took before a gig, made Noel go for it. Liam was his. And he wanted the world to know just that, in that second. Even if he'd explain it away and get the footage pulled later. Liam was his.
And now that everyone was living in London, Noel would be sure to remind him of that fact. Regularly.
